Island Life Diaries: Taylor Vaughn

1. Where are you from?

I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin

2. Why did you move from the comfort of your homeland?

I have always been adventurous, I had been moving around the States for the last 12 years but knew I wanted to experience more than that. When I got the opportunity to come to Cayman, I had only visited once before way back in 1998 and I could remember how beautiful the island was and how safe I felt. I jumped at the chance and am so glad I did!

3. What made you choose Cayman?

I had parted ways with the radio station I was working for and the same day saw an opening at Z99 in Cayman. I applied and moved less than 2 months later.

4. What was the biggest challenge you faced when you arrived?

I would say the biggest challenge was driving on the opposite side of the road than I was accustomed to. I remember for the first 2 weeks I had my license I would drive from work to home and that was all. I walked everywhere else because I was terrified.

5. What surprised you the most about Cayman?

I would have to say, and this may sound stupid, how long it takes to cash a check at a bank. Lol. I'm used to a 30 second drive through deposit. Not here Bobo.

6. What do you think is the single most unique thing about this island?

The people! The way you really never meet a stranger here. Everyone is so kind, Caymankind.

7. What do you love most about living in Cayman?

That too has to be the people. Don't get me wrong the beaches and weather are amazing, but the people make this island home. Whether they grew up here, have PR or are expats, the support system here is like none I've ever seen. I have friends on this island that are more like family to me and if I ever end up leaving this beautiful place I am proud to call my home, I know they will remain in my life forever!
